Prom Night. Every girl's dream, right? You get to dress up, get flowers, look pretty and have a good time with friends. Hell, if you're lucky you'll even lose your virginity (though that's more of a guy thing, right?). Well. Prom night for me... I remember it well. I was going with a friend. Now this friend, we'll call him Sprinkles, liked me forever and a day. So I wasn't surprised when, in the middle of prom, he decided to take me out onto the dance floor for a slow dance. But that turned into an embarrassing (and hilarious, for my friends) experience. It went like this.
Sprinkles: I know you've said no before, but I just wanted to tell you I'm absolutely in love with you.
Now. Before I go any further, he's sent me a few million texts saying things like "I love you" or "I'll wait for you forever" and cheesy stuff like that. However... I've tried to let him down gently, and tell him that I only viewed him as a close friend and that we would never be more than that. Anyway, I'm digressing. Back to the story.
Me: I know... but I've told you before I don't like you that way... I'm sorry but we'll never be more than friends.
Sprinkles: *leaning in toward my face* I know.
Me: Don't kiss me please.
Sprinkles: You can't predict the future, you know.... we'll be together, I feel it. I love you and I always have.
Sorry to interrupt. But at this point, my brain was in turmoil. Half was saying: Let him down gently. The other half of the other half was saying: Awww how sweet. And the bottom half of the other half was beating senselessly on the half that thought it was sweet because I knew I didn't like him that way. Instead of saying something that would let him down gently, I panicked. And here's what came out instead.
Me: I'm gay.
So there you have it, girls. If you have a friend who hits on you a lot and you don't like him that way and you want to let him down gently... tell him you're gay. It makes for a funny story. Now... I won't leak my sexual preference all over the internet, but I'm a firm supporter of the LGBT movement. But again... I'm digressing.
